The Value of a CFP® Professional
More than just a “financial advisor”, a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional is a fiduciary who is held to a higher standard of performance and ethics. CFP® professionals must go through a rigorous process to attain their certification and are committed to always acting in the best interest of their clients. Every advisor at Capital Investment Management is a CFP® professional and acts as a fiduciary by fulfilling three duties:
The Duty of Care means that a CFP® professional must act with the care, skill, and diligence of a prudent professional in regard to your goals, individual circumstances, and risk tolerance.
The Duty to Follow Client Instructions means that upon agreeing to your individual policies, restrictions, and objectives, your CFP® professional must comply with any reasonable and lawful direction you may give them.
The Duty of Loyalty means that your CFP® professional is committed to their fiduciary responsibility of putting your interests above their own. Any potential conflicts of interest must either be avoided entirely or immediately disclosed to you.

Our Process
Our purpose is to assist you in achieving your financial goals. We follow a standardized process to help ensure you can confidently retire and enjoy the money you’ve spent a lifetime saving. Here’s how we work with you:
1. Your First Meeting
You will gain an understanding of how we work with you, and your Capital Investment Management CFP® professional will get to know you and understand your goals. We’ll explain our services and make sure any questions you have are answered.
2. Understanding Your Situation
We need to gather information regarding your current financial status and unique circumstances, such as your current savings, debt, investments, and risk tolerance.
3. Setting Your Goals
What are your short- and long-term goals for your money? We want to hear your vision for the future and ensure we’re on the same page.
4. Analyzing Your Situation
We will evaluate your situation and determine an approach that will get you to your end goal.
5. Developing Your Recommendations
We will develop recommendations to help get you where you want to be, and incorporate assumptions for tax rates, investment returns, and even planning for specific needs like weddings, education funding, and/or purchasing a second home.
6. Presenting Your Recommendations
We’ll talk through our recommendations with you. This is your opportunity to ask questions, provide feedback, and discuss any adjustments you want to see. We ensure you have a clear understanding of how the plan will work to achieve your goals.
7. Implementing Your Plan
Once the plan has received your stamp of approval, we get things moving. We’ll place your funds into a personalized investment portfolio and help you navigate any account changes that may be needed.
8. Monitor Your Performance
We will meet with you on a regular basis to review your investment performance and financial plan. This will also be an opportunity for you to inform us about personal updates, such as a change in your employment or familial status.
